Mythical Beasts The Qilin: Our Single Cask Caol Ila, Reviewed

We recently launched our own series of independent bottlings under the name Mythical Beasts, a project that has been in the works for some time and one that we are very proud to finally share. With this series, our aim is to showcase exceptional single cask whiskies that truly represent the character of the distillery, the influence of the cask, and the individuality that makes single cask releases so special. Each bottling in the series is selected for quality, personality, and the ability to offer something a little different from standard releases. Our very first release was a 12-year-old Caol Ila, matured and then finished in a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask, which added rich sweetness and depth to the distillery’s classic coastal, smoky style.

Since the launch, one of the most rewarding parts has been seeing the reaction from the whisky community. We have loved seeing your photos appear online, reading your reviews, and hearing your own tasting notes and impressions of the whisky. It is always exciting releasing a cask for the first time, but the response from enthusiasts, collectors, and friends of the brand has made this first Mythical Beasts bottling particularly memorable for us. Sharing the whisky with people who genuinely enjoy discovering single casks is one of the best parts of what we do.
