Buying Whisky Casks

Spiritfilled: Cask Supplier

Compare whisky cask prices

Fees and T&Cs apply. Cask investments can go down as well as up. Past performance and forecasts are not a reliable indicator of future results. Cask investments are unregulated in the UK. Capital at risk.

Get multiple quotes before you buy

If you are currently comparing cask prices, this is very sensible. Pricing for casks can be opaque, and there are huge variations. Buying your asset at the right price is fundamental to future success. Beyond initial purchase, storage arrangements, documentation, ongoing fees, and exit flexibility can also vary significantly. Whether you are buying a cask for the first time, or already reviewing an offer elsewhere, our role is to help you be confident you're getting the best deal.

A short call allows us to understand what you are looking for and suitable whisky cask options. If you are already looking at a specific cask or broker, we can also discuss structure, documentation, storage arrangements, and overall pricing so that you are clear on the fundamentals before proceeding.

The call is free and there's no obligation on you to go any further. Its purpose is simply to help you make an informed decision, whether that involves working with Spiritfilled or simply ensuring you are comfortable with your planned purchase elsewhere.

"I have recently added to my existing cask portfolio with Spiritfilled. The returns to date are healthy which encouraged me to buy some more. The people at Spiritfilled are knowledgeable and run their business in an efficient and courteous manner; never any hard sell. Easy to get hold of to answer any questions or provide information."

"Being completely new to buying whisky, I needed quite a lot of information about the types of barrels, sizes, what was a good buy etc. My dealings were with Jonathan and he took the time to explain all this to me, several times as my memory isn't great! Nothing was too much trouble and he has kept in touch to make sure I was happy and everything was OK. I would have no hesitation in recommending Spiritfilled if you're thinking of buying whisky."

"Spiritfilled have been an absolute pleasure to deal with, from the first enquiry to the final transaction. I found them to be knowledgeable, passionate about what they do and genuine about delivering a positive customer experience. I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in either buying or selling whisky. Thank you Russell and team!"

"I bought a few casks of Whiskey from Chris with a very pleasant and comfortable procedure. I have already talked to different brokers before finding Spiritfilled and Chris, so I can obviously see the difference: Chris is always patient and trying his best to answer the questions I have (the Whiskey, the distillery and the potential investment return). I did not feel to be pushed by him to buy the casks without understanding what I am getting into as the other brokers did to me."

"I found the overall experience very easy. I wasn’t forced into anything or felt obligated to do anything I didn’t want to. All my questions about whisky investments were answered. After my purchase, Ownership papers were sent out ASAP by email and paper copy along with purchase agreement. Once my casks were moved to Breaside Bond warehouse I was given a delivery order and organised a visit to see them. Excellent service start to finish. Would highly recommend Spiritfilled."

Why Compare Before Buying a Whisky Cask?

Whisky cask ownership is not a standardised product. Two casks from the same distillery or vintage can sit within very different pricing, legal, and storage structures. Before committing, it is worth checking five things:

1. Cask Price. Whisky cask pricing is relatively opaque. There is no central exchange, and similar casks can be offered at materially different prices by different providers. Obtaining an alternative quote helps ensure you are not overpaying at the outset, which is fundamental to long-term value.

2. Legal Ownership. A cask should be supported by a valid Delivery Order confirming ownership of a specific cask held in an HMRC-approved bonded warehouse. Clear documentation underpins future sale, transfer, or bottling.

3. Storage and Control. All Scotch whisky must mature in bond, but warehousing arrangements differ. Understanding where the cask is stored and who controls the facility matters over the life of the asset.

4. Ongoing Costs. Purchase price is only one component. Storage, insurance, regauging, sampling, and potential bottling costs should be transparent from the outset so that there are no surprises later.

5. Exit Flexibility. Your ability to sell, transfer, or bottle in the future depends heavily on how the cask is structured and documented today.

Taking the time to compare pricing and structure helps ensure a whisky cask purchase is grounded in clarity rather than assumption.

What To Check Before Buying a Whisky Cask

If you are reviewing an offer, asking the right questions can prevent complications later on. A whisky cask is a long-term asset, and clarity at purchase stage is essential. Here are five questions to ask:

Is the price fair? Given the opacity of the cask market, it is reasonable to ask how pricing has been assessed. Comparable transactions, distillery demand, cask type, and age all influence value. Obtaining an alternative quote provides useful context.

What’s included in the price? Confirm whether storage, insurance, and administration are included in the acquisition price and for how long. If they are not, request a clear schedule of ongoing costs so you understand the full holding cost over time.

Will you get a Delivery Order? You should receive a Delivery Order confirming ownership of a specific cask held in an HMRC-approved bonded warehouse. The document should clearly identify the distillery, cask number, fill date, and bulk litres of alcohol. Without this, legal title may be unclear.

Where is the cask? All Scotch whisky must mature in bond, but it is important to know which warehouse holds the cask and whether the provider has direct control or relies entirely on third parties. Clear warehousing arrangements support smoother administration and future transfers.

What about cask management and exit? Ask how sampling, regauging, re-racking, bottling, or resale would be handled. A reputable provider should be able to outline practical next steps and associated costs without ambiguity.

Clear answers to these five key questions you confidence you're getting a good deal.

Spiritfilled reviews

Scottish Rugby Captain and Spiritfilled Ambassador

A word from Finn Russell

“For me, I think it’s a great investment. The longer you can afford to leave it, the better the investment it is. It’s something for my daughters to come; I’ll probably get casks for them in the future, and its always a nice thing to hand down.

Being Scottish, I suppose it’s kind of part of our country, part of our nation. So, I think supporting the Scottish brands and the Scottish distilleries is brilliant. I think the investment you can put in and the longer you can leave it, it’s a brilliant opportunity for people.

One of the biggest things of becoming part of Spiritfilled was the Scottish whisky and coming from Scotland. Being so passionate about Scotland. It’s one of our main prides and whisky gets exported worldwide. I think me trying to help grow Scotland as much as a whisky brand itself is something I’m really looking forward to.”
